Antares B

Antares B is a blue-white main-sequence star, one of two stars in the Antares binary star system.

Facts About Antares B:

  • Antares B has the spectral type B2.5V.
  • It probably has around 7 times the mass of our Sun.
  • It is likely that Antares B contains matter ejected from the main star Antares.
  • Antares B is very difficult to see with a telescope because it is overpowered by the far brighter Antares. It is sometimes possible, for example, if Antares is being blocked by the Moon. An experienced backyard astronomer could see Antares B for a few seconds if they get the timing right.
