How many stars can you see with your own eyes?
Many people have tried to count or figure out how many stars you can see in the night sky. Estimates range from around 2,000 to 10,000 for any given location (so twice that many for the entire sky around Earth).
A useful guide is the Yale Bright Star Catalog, which lists every star brighter than magnitude 6.5—the naked eye limit for most people. According to this there are exactly 9,096 visible stars in the entire sky (so 4,548 at any given location).
This is assuming ideal conditions that you'll probably never find yourself in. Once you factor in light pollution, atmospheric conditions and any moonlight, you're likely to see 2,000 or less.
In many places you can't actually see any stars at all. Sucks to be there.
One way to see lots more stars is to take a long-exposure photograph. You might be amazed at how many more stars there are than you can see with the unaided eye..
